Protect Your Friends From The Wolves

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names can destroy me. Not the way the rhyme goes, but it should. Bullying isn't just kids punching each other in the playground. Many adults are bullies and they find the keyboard the best place to do it. It is easy to name call and rip a person apart when you type the words because most times these people would never have the guts to say it to a person face to face. After all we know bullies are gutless, weak people who have to steal the strength from others as they  cause damage. It is when we either ignore the bully or we cheer them on that we become as bad as them.
We cheer them on by the attention SL secrets gets each Sunday, or we laugh as they post on FB about another person, dragging them through the mud. The bully claims the person is wrong and they are just pointing out the mistake - we all make mistakes but helping the person fix it is a better way to be. Then others join in posting comments, laughing, hitting a thumbs up or whatever. Joining in makes us just as bad.
Many in SL have mental health and self esteem problems. The damage  these cruel words can create goes way past  what is said in the moment on facebook (or any other place).
So when you see a friend being  bullied, don't sit in the shadow, stand by them. I don't mean interact with the bully, I mean talk to your friend. Check they are ok, that they are coping. If you can laugh at it all together, even better. A bully tries to single out a person so if  we all stand with the person the bully stops. Something to try  and live by  is to treat others as you wish to be treated, we become more gentle with our words and actions when we do
